Systems Vocabulary

1.Central processing unit-The CPU is responsible for performing all of the airthmetic and logical instructions that computer can do.

2.Expansion slots-Connections that et you install expansion boards also called (adapter cards)-circuit boards that allow you to attach additional devices to your computer system.

3.Flash memory-Smartmedia and CompactFash cards store megabytes of data on small, thin, rectangular cards using a type of chip known as Flash Memory.

4.Graphical user interface(GUI)-lets users piont and click on recognizable, intuituve, and consistent objects, elimanating the need to memorize complex commands and syntax.

5.Hard drive-is the storage device at the heart of most computer system.

6.Hardware-Encompasses all the physicak components of a computer sysytem.

7.Input device-Are external to the system unit and are attached to it using specific connectors and ports.

8.Linux-Is a powerful operating system for PCs based on Unix.

9.MacOS-beginning with version 8.

10.Mainframe-perform multiple tasks for many users simultanneosly-usually for large corporations or organizations.

11.Minicomputer-Smaller multiuser sysytems.

12.Motherboard-All computer circuitary is connected to the main circuit board.

13.Operting Syste(OS)-The software program that oversees and controls everything that happens while your computer is turned on.

14.Output device-Show you the results of the computer's processing.

15.Platform-The combination of a specific type of computer system and a specific version of operating system.

16.Professional workstation-Meets the needs users requiring more computing power than a personal computers.

17.Random acces memory(RAM)-Chips store data only temporarily; all; information is erased when the computer is turned off.

18.read-only memory(ROM)-Chips have instructions and data built into them.

19.Supercomputer-Meet this need by processing trillions of calculations per second.

20.Syntax-The user must type commands using particular keywords, punctuation symbols, and other rigidly enforced rules, collectively.

21.System Software-Includes the opertaing system and utility programs that help to operate and maintain your computer's data management tasks.

22.System Unit-Is the case that houses the computer's internal processing circuitry- including the motherboard, disk drives, power supply, plugin boards, and internal speakers.

23.User interface-The way in which the user interacts with the computer.

24.Utility program-The other part of the system software, perform "behind the scenes" duties that are important but not essential to the basic operating of the system.

25.Virus-Are small pieces of unathorized program code written to invade hard drives.

26.Windows-In 1985, Microsoft coraporation introduced its own graphical user interface.

Vocabulary #3

1.Animated object-An object such as a picture, textbox, or other graphic that appears by itself during a powerpiont presentation.

2.Animated Text-Text that displays on a Power Point slide one linear or bulleted point at a time.

3.Animation-A sound or visual effect added to a Power Point presentation to make the presentation more interesting.

4.Bit mapped image (bitmap)-An image made from a series of small dots.

5.Embed-To insert a source file into a destination file.

6.Footer-A line of text that appears at the bottom of each page in a file, containing information such as the document's namem or the date.

7.Header-A line of text that appears at the top of each page in a file containing information such as the document's name, a page numbe, or the date.

8.Link-The connection between a source file and a destination file, or between two tables.

9.Slide Master-A hidden slide in every PowerPiont presentation that stores design template specifications- such as placeholder sizes and positions, bullet styles, font styles and sizes, and background colr- for all slides but the title slide.

14.Comment-In eord, small balloons in the margin of a document that hold remarks or suggestions.

15.Embedded font-A fond inserted in a PowerPoint presentation in such a wat that the font will always appear the same, even if the presentation is shown on another computer.

16.Liquid crystal display projector-Equipment that allows you to project the slides in a PowerPoint presentation in slide show view from your computer onto a blank wall or large video screen.

17.Online broadcast-A PowerPoint feature that allows audience members to view a presentation on their own computer using their Web browsers.

18.Publish-To save a PowerPoint presentation as a set of Web pages on an intranet or Web server, allowing others to open and navigate the presentation using their Web browsers.

Vocabulary

1. Presentation-is a formal or an informal report, usually given orally, sometimes called "speech" or a "talk."
2.Thumbnails-the Slides tab contains small-size views of all slides in the presentation.
3.Splitter Bars-Horizontal or Vertical bars seperate the left slide, and notes panes in normal view.
4.Title Slide-The first slide in a presentation.
5.Title-The main topic of any slide is displayed.
6.Placeholder-is present location reserving space for a slide element.
7. Title Area-is a placeholder for the slide's title.
8.Text Area-is a placeholder for a subtitle or a numbered or bulleted list.
9.Object Area-is reserved for objects.
10.Rich Text Format(RTF)-a file format with the extension.
11.Auto Connect Wizard-is a tool to help you create a presentation easily with preprogrammed layouts,designs,and text.
12.Boilerplate Text-standard text which is appropriate for that type of presentation.
13.Indent Level-Is a number that indicates the indent and importance of the subtitle in relation to the title.
14.Promote-Decreasing the indent and increasing the type size.
15.Demote-It increases the indent and reduces the type size.
16.Subtitle-Any text that follows the title and gives more detail about the title.
17.Objects-which are nontext elements such as charts, tables, clip art, pictures, photos, movie clips, or other types of information.
